Banks for more sustainability in the financial markets

31 January 2018

The European Commission’s High-Level Expert Group (HLEG) on Sustainable Finance has today unveiled its final report. The objective is to promote sustainable investments and integrate the issue of sustainability into the regulatory and financial policy framework of the European Union. Christian Ossig, Chief Executive of the Association of German Banks, comments as follows: “The banks are committed to the principle of sustainable development. Many banks have already integrated ecological considerations into their operations. The report now published by the Expert Group sends out a strong signal. Sustainability is no longer a side issue. Today, all firms in the financial industry need to embed the concept of sustainable finance in their DNA. To achieve this, it is essential to establish clear terminology and a transparent code of conduct for all involved. It’s also important not to ignore the risks associated with sustainable finance.”
